Five radiography students at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently participated in a "technibowl" quiz-show competition at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, which was hosted by the Penn State Hershey radiology program. The Penn College teams placed in the top third of the competition. (more)
Pennsylvania College of Technology students pursuing bachelor's degrees in applied human services will host a Ten Thousand Villages Festival Sale on Nov. 18-20. Ten Thousand Villages, a fair-trade organization, works with more than 100 artisan groups in more than 30 countries, enabling artisans to earn a fair wage and an opportunity for a higher quality of life. William J. Astore, associate professor of history at Pennsylvania College of Technology, presented the plenary address at the Annual International Conference on Academic Integrity. The address, titled "The Wider Dimensions of Academic Integrity," also was selected as the lead article for the December 2009 issue of the International Journal for Educational Integrity. (more)
Pennsylvania College of Technology has received $42,000 from The Caterpillar Foundation and its partnering dealerships. The donation will mostly benefit students in three majors within the college's School of Natural Resources Management. Penn College has received $1.65 million from the Caterpillar Excellence Fund and its member dealers since 1994. (more)
The Weatherization Training Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology has expanded its operations in response to a growing demand fueled by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act support. The center held a Grand Opening Nov. 4, showcasing the enhanced 16,000-square-foot facility for invited federal, state and local officials and training partners. (more)
Chef Charles R. Niedermyer, instructor of baking and pastry arts/culinary arts at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was awarded a Judge's Prize in the second annual America's Best Raisin Bread Contest. Niedermyer was named co-winner of the Judges Prize in the artisan category for his Dueling Raisins Bread. The event was hosted by the American Institute of Baking. (more)
A baking and pastry arts application class at Pennsylvania College of Technology will dedicate proceeds from a Nov. 13 bread and pastry sale to a memorial fund for a former classmate, Akacia Klick, who died July 28 due to acute intermittent porphyria, a rare genetic enzyme disorder. Klick earned a degree in baking and pastry arts in May. (more)
The Gallery at Penn College will host "Erasing Borders 2009: Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art of the Diaspora" from Nov. 13 to Dec. 13. The traveling annual exhibit features 27 artists whose origins can be traced to the Indian subcontinent. An opening reception will take place in the gallery from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 19. (more)
Student Activities at Pennsylvania College of Technology will present "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," one of the longest-running off Broadway musicals, Nov. 12-14. The show, featuring a cast of students and faculty, is being directed by Jacquie Engel, a graphic designer and frequent director/music director at downtown Williamsport's Community Theatre League. Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer two Transfer Information Sessions on Nov. 20 for students interested in finding out how their college, community college or university credits will transfer to the college. The sessions, scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., will feature an Admissions and Financial Aid Presentation, followed by a tour of the main campus and individual transcript evaluations. (more)
