Six members of the Penn State men's lacrosse team earned All-CAA honors. Senior attackman Matthew Mackrides (Newtown Square) was tabbed to the All-CAA First Team for the third straight year, while senior defenseman Ryan McGarvey (Lower Gwynedd) and sophomore goalkeeper Austin Kaut (Morton) joined Mackrides as first-team selections. Five Penn State men's gymnasts who were key to the program's success in 2012, Mackenzie Dow (Cranford, N.J.), Miguel Pineda (Galloway, Ohio), Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield, Pa.), Craig Hernandez (Libertyville, Ill.), and Matthew Felleman (Medway, Mass.), qualified for the 2012 Visa Championships based on their performances at the U.S. Men's Qualifier the weekend of May 4-6 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A total of 16 former Penn State football student-athletes are participating in National Football League rookie mini-camps this month. Three more former Nittany Lions signed free agent contracts last week: tackle Quinn Barham (Durham, N.C./Detroit Lions), tailback Stephfon Green (Bronx, N.Y./Detroit Lions) and cornerback/kick returner Chaz Powell (New Freedom/Oakland Raiders). The renewal of the Penn State-Virginia series is set for a noon kick on Sept. 8 in Charlottesville, the Nittany Lions' fourth announced start time for the 2012 season. ABC will televise the contest from Scott Stadium. The Cavaliers are among the 10 bowl teams from the 2011 season that Coach Bill O'Brien's Nittany Lions will play this fall. (more)

Penn State baseball's Jordan Steranka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday (May 14). Steranka picks up a weekly award from the conference for the second time this season. Steranka last earned the honor on April 16. (more)

The Fifth Annual Coquese's Drive for the Centre County Women's Resource Center presented by the Lady Lion Cager Club will take place on Friday, Aug. 31 at the Penn State Blue Course, Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington announced today. The tournament will commence with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Centre County Women's Resource Center. (more)

Junior centerfielder Cassidy Bell (Bakersfield, Calif.) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes First Team on Thursday (May 17). Bell receives her first All-Region honor, while capturing Penn State's first NFCA All-Region First Team honor since 2007 (Danielle Kinley). Bell now is eligible to earn All-America Honors. (more)

Penn State softball standouts Cassidy Bell (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Kasie Hatfield (Tampa, Fla.) were named to the All-Big Ten First Team and Second Team, respectively on Wednesday by league coaches. Penn State basketball will offer five boys basketball camp opportunities on the University Park campus this summer beginning June 1-3 with the Father/Son Camp. Head coach Patrick Chambers, the Nittany Lion coaching staff and several current Nittany Lion players will be joined by former Nittany Lion players and regional coaches as they conduct a variety of camp opportunities covering several skill levels through the month of June.
