With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Ben White of New Vibrations Audio and Video works on a ledge of the Old Main bell tower, to remove the speakers from the old chime system. The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

The funeral procession for Joe Paterno made its way past Beaver Stadium and down Porter Road as crowds applauded on Jan. 25. Thousands lined the procession route through the University Park campus and downtown State College to bid a last farewell to Joe Paterno.

Coach Joe Paterno was on the field for the first half of the Nittany Lions' football game. Penn State beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 13-3 on Oct. 8, 2011, in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Beaver Stadium.

Katie Knobloch and Andrew Adamietz, members of the a capella group Blue in the Face, shared a candle at the vigil held Sunday, Jan. 22, to mourn the death of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who passed away earlier in the day. Several thousand members of the Penn State and State College community came out to the Old Main lawn on Penn State's University Park campus for the vigil.

Penn State women's soccer Head coach Erica Walsh announced the additions of seven new Nittany Lions on Friday afternoon. The class is highlighted by Costa Rican national star Raquel Rodriguez Cedeno (San Jose, Costa Rica) and American standouts Corey Persson (Danvers, Mass. and Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.). Four more recruits are set to join the squad in 2012 as well including Jenna Kalwa (Pennington, N.J.), Meghan Kaminski (Doylestown, Pa.), Mallory Peterson (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and Megan Ritchey (State College, Pa.). Eight members of the Nittany Lion wrestling team continue to be ranked in the latest version of the Intermat national individual rankings. Four Nittany Lion All-Americans are ranked in the top two and all eight are listed in the top 12. Penn State is now 11-1 overall, 7-1 in the Big Ten, after winning at No. 7 Nebraska (31-6) and beating No. 12 Michigan (34-7) this past weekend. Head coach Cael Sanderson's Lions are ranked No. 2 in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll and continue to hold the No. 1 in Intermat's Tournament Power Index (TPI). (more)

Head coach Greg Nye announced that three talented recruits have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Penn State men's golf roster for the 2012-13 season. JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township High School), Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H./Gilford Middle High School) and Geoff Vertales (Cromwell, Conn./ Xavier High School) will be eligible to compete for the Nittany Lions during the 2012 fall season. A pair of former Penn State standouts, Kareem McKenzie and Jimmy Kennedy played instrumental roles in helping the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots, 21-17, in Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants' starting right tackle, McKenzie earned his second Super Bowl ring and Penn State's 51st, having also been a starter when New York beat New England four years ago. Kennedy earned his first Super Bowl ring, becoming the 35th different Nittany Lion to a total of 52 NFL Championship rings. (more)
