Penn State Press will hold its annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the lobby of the Kern Building on Penn State's University Park campus. First Thursday State College will celebrate the arts on Dec. 3, with a variety of exhibits, performances, demonstrations, and activities. Several events will take place at the University Libraries on Penn State's University Park campus as part of the festivities. (more)
Patrons receiving e-mail notifications from Penn State University Libraries will now be able to identify the notice type in the subject line of the mail. Previously, all emails displayed the standard "Library Notice" in the subject line. Now, each type of notification is identified, including "library holds available for pickup," "library material recalled" and others. This enhancement will help patrons identify and respond to time-sensitive notifications with ease. (more)
The University Libraries will launch redesigned Web pages in 2010, and want faculty, students and others to comment on two possible design choices to create a product suited to user needs. They want to know which design is the most appealing, best represents the Libraries, and most importantly, makes information easier to find. (more)
During Thanksgiving break, the University Park Libraries will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22. They will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday Nov. 23 to Wednesday, Nov. 25. The Libraries will then close for Thanksgiving and reopen on Sunday, Nov. 29, at noon, when the regular fall semester schedule resumes. All University Park branch libraries and the "study all night" area in the ground and first floors of Pattee Library, west, will follow this schedule. (more)
The Penn State University Libraries United Way Committee will hold a craft sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 19, in Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library. The craft sale is open to the public and will feature yarn, fabric, jewelry, craft items and much more. All proceeds will benefit Centre County United Way. (more)
A special screening of Milking the Rhino, a film by David E. Simpson, will be shown on Tuesday, November 17, 7 p.m., in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library. Members of the Penn State community interested in cultural awareness, tourism, global sustainability, and contemporary issues in Africa will find this film informative, engaging, and empowering. Get a firsthand account of studying and living abroad at an upcoming event hosted by Penn State University Libraries titled "Global Perspectives." This panel presentation and discussion with Penn State study abroad and international students will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, in Foster Auditorium (room 101) in Pattee Library. It is sponsored by the University Libraries Diversity Committee and Library Learning Services and is being held in conjunction with International Education Week.
"Pioneers of Scientific and Engineering Discoveries at Penn State," by science librarian Robert Tolliver, is on display through Jan. 8 in the main exhibit hall of Pattee Library. (more)
