Richard Alley, the Evan Pugh Professor of Geosciences at Penn State, will be the host of three hours of programming on WPSU-TV on Earth Day, April 22. The premiere of two new installments of his "Earth: The Operators' Manual" series, focused on climate change and sustainable energy, will occur at 7 p.m., with the program "Energy Quest U.S.A.," and at 10:30 p.m., with "Powering the Planet." The new television and interactive series, "World on Trial," will premiere on public television stations beginning Jan. 31 (see schedule). The program brings together the best legal talent in the world to argue both sides of sharply contested human rights issues before live juries. The inaugural episode deals with the French law prohibiting conspicuous religious attire in public schools. The program asks jurors and viewers to consider whether the law is a violation of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The program will air at 6 and 9 p.m. on Jan. 31 on WPSU on PBS World, and at 9 p.m. on Feb. 2 on WPSU HD. (more)

The holiday season will be in full swing on Saturday, Dec. 10 when the Penn State School of Music choral group Essence of Joy and community choral group Essence 2 take the stage for WPSU's "Winterfest '11: Our Gift in Song" at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Guests must be seated by 7:15 p.m.
As the world examines Penn State, the University begins to examine itself. Penn State Public Broadcasting and host Patty Satalia will broadcast a special live, one-hour radio program following Sunday's installment of "This American Life," which is featuring Penn State in this weekend's episode. "Back to Penn State" is a rebroadcast of the December, 2009 episode, "#1 Party School," with new interviews recorded this past week with Penn State fans and loyalists trying to make sense of the current crisis. The National Center for the Victims of Crime estimates one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. Recent events at Penn State have sparked national attention around this issue, which is typically shrouded in silence and often unreported. How can society recognize child sexual abuse? What can people do to prevent it? And what resources are available to victims and their families?
Penn State Public Broadcasting and host Patty Satalia will explore this issue with a panel of experts in a special, one-hour, interactive program called "Confronting Child Sexual Abuse."
