Several changes will take place in University Park campus commuter parking areas to make way for the annual Blue/White Carnival. The carnival will be set up in the section of Lot Stadium West directly adjacent to the stadium and Curtin Road. This section of the lot will be closed from 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, through 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. (more)
The Office of Physical Plant (OPP) at Penn State's University Park campus has declared a Midnight Clear for tonight (Jan. 20). As a result, parking will be restricted in surface parking lots from midnight to 7 a.m. on Jan. 21, with some exceptions. According to weather reports, about 4 inches of snow is expected to fall in State College tonight. (more)
Penn State employees and students use regional roadways, bike trails, sidewalks and bus systems to commute to work and class every day. In order to better understand commuting preferences and what might be done to enhance environmentally friendly alternatives, the University is inviting the campus community to participate in a transportation survey. Beginning on Dec. 6, University Park students who want to register their automobile for the 2012 spring semester may submit their registration online or in person at the Parking Office, located in the Eisenhower Parking Deck. (more)
The Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute at Penn State has announced that William W. Millar will deliver the 2011 Thomas D. Larson Distinguished Transportation Lecture, titled "Why Would Anyone Invest in Public Transportation?" The lecture will be delivered at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 6, in Room 105 of the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel on the University Park campus, in conjunction with the 17th annual Transportation Engineering and Safety Conference, Dec. 7-9. Most people, at some point in their lives, will take a bus trip and many use buses for their daily commutes. They take for granted that they will arrive safely at their destination. Thanks in part to Penn State's Bus Research and Testing Program, bus travel is indeed a safe and reliable method of transportation in Pennsylvania. A new 2011 Volt, Chevrolet's electric automobile, was donated by General Motors to Penn State's Center for Sustainability to further the University's research of new transportation technology. The car will permit researchers to collect and track data that will help to prove the efficiency of solar-generated electricity for cars, motorcycles and daily commuters. The automobile donated to Penn State is one of only two Volts that Chevrolet donated to institutions of higher education, and the only one donated for the purpose of sustainable energy research. To accommodate the construction project taking place on Shortlidge Road, the HUB Parking Deck will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday, June 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 6, and again from 6 p.m. Friday, June 10, to 5 a.m. Monday June 13. Faculty, staff and students who normally use the HUB Deck on the weekend will find ample parking available in Lot Brown C or the Eisenhower Parking Deck.
