Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Skelos, Yeisley honored with Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Awards

Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) and Daphne Skelos (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) have been selected as Penn State's recipients of the 2010 Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. Both Skelos and Yeisley were the only student-athletes honored by the conference from their respective sports, women's swimming and men's soccer, among the group of 22. One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. From each university's list, two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected. (more)
