Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Pentz joins Beaver campus IT staff

Nicholas Pentz has been named computer systems specialist in Penn State Beaver's Office of Information Technology. The position requires a broad range of skills, including knowledge and experience with personal computers, hardware and software, audiovisual and media systems, and procurement and budgeting. Additionally, he is qualified to work in a variety of operating systems, software, Microsoft applications, computer languages, and conferencing technology. Pentz holds a bachelor's degree in communication/emerging technology and multimedia from Slippery Rock University. He can be contacted at njp114@psu.edu or 724-773-3573.

Web-based 'Galaxy' project simplifies genomic analysis
