A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State York honored its student athletes at the 41st annual Athletic Awards Banquet Thursday, April 19, at Heritage Hills Golf Resort & Conference Center, York, Pa. Awards were presented prior to dinner.

Twelve Penn State York students earned the distinction of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Academic All-Conference. This honor is bestowed on those student athletes who have a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher during the semester of competition or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and completion of at least 24 credits. Recipients in their sports are: Baseball: Kyle Lingg, York, Pa. Team Tennis: Duong H. Duong, York, Pa.; Christopher M. Lawyer, York, Pa.; and Ashley L. Valentin, York, Pa. Coll named UNLV women's soccer head coach

Penn State women's soccer assistant coach Michael Coll resigned from his post on Thursday (April 19) as he was named the head coach of the UNLV women's soccer program. Coll leaves University Park after eight years on the Nittany Lion sidelines helping Penn State to a Big Ten title in each year he coached. (more)

The Nittany Lion Club and the Penn State Alumni Association will team up to provide fans the chance to meet and hear from some of the leaders of Penn State Athletics this spring when the Penn State Coaches Caravan hits the road for destinations across Nittany Nation, encompassing seven states and Washington, D.C. Nittany Lion football coach Bill O'Brien will headline the bus tour of many Penn State alumni strongholds across Pennsylvania and the East Coast. The first-year coach is scheduled to participate in all 18 Coaches Caravan stops across nine days in late April and early May. (more)

Penn State York will honor its student athletes at the 41st annual Athletic Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 19. The banquet will take place at Heritage Hills Golf Resort & Conference Center, 2700 Mt. Rose Ave., York, Pa. Scholar athletes, outstanding players and a variety of other awards will be presented following a 6 p.m. dinner. Award recipients and coaches attend the banquet at no charge. (more)

Penn State women's soccer Head coach Erica Walsh announced the additions of seven new Nittany Lions on Friday afternoon. The class is highlighted by Costa Rican national star Raquel Rodriguez Cedeno (San Jose, Costa Rica) and American standouts Corey Persson (Danvers, Mass. and Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.). Four more recruits are set to join the squad in 2012 as well including Jenna Kalwa (Pennington, N.J.), Meghan Kaminski (Doylestown, Pa.), Mallory Peterson (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and Megan Ritchey (State College, Pa.). Nittany Lions sixth in final Fall Directors' Cup Standings

Following another outstanding fall athletic campaign, highlighted by two Big Ten titles, Penn State sits sixth in the 2011-12 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Final Fall Standings. Penn State will be looking for its 14th Top 15 finish in the 18-year history of the Directors' Cup, placing in the Top 25 every year, with eight Top 10 finishes. Stanford, who won its 17th consecutive Learfield Sports Directors' Cup for 2010-11, currently sits in first place. Penn State is one of two Big Ten schools that sit in the current Top 10 (Michigan is fifth). (more)

Representing seven fall sports, 68 Penn State student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big Ten honorees. Penn State's 68 honorees brings the Nittany Lions' all-time total to 3,852 during the 18 years of the program. Penn State's 68 honorees ranked fourth among the 12 Big Ten institutions. In addition, the women's volleyball team totaled eight honorees to tie for first with Illinois. (more)
