Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

Brodhead Cultural Center announces 36th summer schedule of events

The Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center will kick off its 36th summer of free and low-cost events on June 19. Sponsors of the season's events are The Times, Beaver Valley Musicians Union Local 82-545, and Eat'n Park Hospitality Group. With the exception of the musical, shows are free and will be held in the J.P. Giusti Amphitheater on campus. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, shows will move into the campus auditorium. The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will sell concessions at all shows as well as Penn State Creamery ice cream at indicated performances. Penn State York announces holiday schedule

Penn State York will be closed for regular business for the holidays beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan 3, 2012.

Commencement begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center on campus. Registration for the spring semester is ongoing, with most day and evening credit classes beginning Jan. 9, 2012. Other courses begin throughout the semester. Plan to register early to ensure a place in class. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. (more)

Fall semester classes at Penn State Beaver began at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22. The campus will be closed for the Labor Day holiday, Monday, Sept. 5. Fall semester break is Monday through Friday, Nov. 21-25, and the campus will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24. Classes will end Friday, Dec. 9, and final exams will be held Monday through Friday, Dec. 12-16. Commencement will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, Student Union Building auditorium. Brodhead Cultural Center continues free summer concerts

Two free concerts will be held this month as part of the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center's 35th season of summer programming. The shows are open to the public. The Monaca Cornet Band will perform Tuesday, July 12, and the Pittsburgh Banjo Club will be in concert Tuesday, July 19. Both shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. In addition, because of maintenance upgrades at the outdoor amphitheater, the concerts will be held in the auditorium of the Beaver campus Student Union Building. The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Society will sell Penn State Creamery ice cream from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the auditorium and will also provide refreshments. All sale proceeds benefit the Alumni Chapter's scholarships for Beaver campus students. The Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center's 35th summer season of programming will begin June 21 at the J. P. Giusti Amphitheater, Brodhead Road, Monaca, Pa. This summer's program sponsors include The Times, Clearview Federal Credit Union, and the Beaver Valley Musicians Union Local 82-545. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public. Most shows are free, except the Center Theatre Players production of the musical, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Tickets are $15 and can be obtained in advance by contacting the Brodhead Cultural Center at 724-773-3610 or rxm70@psu.edu. The musical will be held in the auditorium of the Student Union Building. Big Ten announces football division alignments, conference schedules

The Big Ten Conference has announced football division alignments beginning with the 2011 season. The winner of each Big Ten division will meet in the inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game, to be played Dec. 3, 2011, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The championship game will determine the Big Ten Champion and the conference's participant in the Rose Bowl Game or Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game. (more)
