Penn State's Board of Trustees has agreed with President Graham Spanier on a three-year extension of his existing contract, keeping him at the helm of one of the nation's leading research universities until 2015. Spanier's contract extension will take him one year beyond Penn State's recently announced $2-billion capital campaign, scheduled to conclude in 2014. With this extended contract, Spanier would become the second-longest serving Penn State president in the school's 155-year history, tied with Ralph Hetzel, who served from 1927-1947. (more)

Colleges and universities are facing difficult financial decisions stemming from the widening global economic crisis. In a discussion this week at Faculty Senate, Penn State President Graham Spanier reassured community members that the University is on solid financial ground, but will face serious challenges because of a $21.2 million recission from the state. Following the success of its first salary negotiation workshop, the college's Office of Career Solutions will hold a second workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in 208 IST Building on the University Park campus of Penn State. (more)
