With expenses including food and utilities costs projected to rise, the Board of Trustees Friday, Jan. 20, approved a modest increase in room and board rates for the 2012-13 academic year. The average room and board rate, including a standard double-occupancy residence hall room and the most common meal plan, will be $4,495 per semester, an increase of 2.86 percent or $125 over the current year's rate of $4,370. This is the second-lowest percentage increase in the last 20 years. (more)

Penn State's Board of Trustees approved room and board rates Friday (Nov. 5) for the 2011-12 academic year, acknowledging the ongoing need to maintain Housing and Food Services' 6 million square feet of space University-wide while offering safe, reasonably priced and high-quality living and dining options. "As auxiliary enterprises, the Housing, Food Services and Residence Life programs are entirely self-sustaining and receive no financial support from tuition or state funds," noted Gail Hurley, associate vice president of Auxiliary and Business Services. To cover increases in operating and maintenance costs, the Board of Trustees on Friday (Nov. 6) approved a modest increase in room and board rates for the 2010-11 academic year. The average room and board rate -- including a standard double-occupancy room and the most common meal plan -- will be $4,185 per semester, an increase of $100, or 2.45 percent, over last year. This is the smallest percentage increase in the room and board rates in 20 years. (more)

Penn State's Board of Trustees Friday (Nov. 21) received an update on planned and completed improvements for Housing and Food Services. As a result of increased operating costs, the board approved an increase of 5.87 percent, or $225 per semester, to the University's average room and board rates for the 2009-10 academic year at all nine of the University's residential campuses. The average room and board rate -- including a standard double-occupancy room and most common meal plan -- will be $4,060 per semester. (more)
