University Park, Pa - Penn State officials sent a letter to the consulting firm tasked with developing a master plan for Spring Creek Canyon outlining comments and recommendations for the final plan. The land management plan provides a blueprint for the design, use and conservation of the canyon in Centre County and its surrounding uplands. (more)

Rockview land transfer delayed until next legislative session

Penn State officials were disappointed to learn today (Sept. 22) that the sale of more than 1,100 acres of state land to the University will be tabled during the current legislative session, but say they plan to continue to work in good faith to complete a master plan for the property and acquire the acreage for educational and research purposes. The proposed sale of more than 1,100 acres of land to Penn State near the State Correctional Institution at Rockview recently won overwhelming approval from the state House of Representatives and the proposal has been sent to the state Senate for consideration in the coming months. In June, the House voted 185-13 in favor of the proposal, reflecting the widespread support for the bill that would sell the land to Penn State for more than $1 million and allow the University to use the property for education, research and extension programs in agricultural, environmental and bio-energy areas.
