Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

In 2006, more than 20,000 Penn Staters crowded the Miami Beach Convention Center, awaiting the Penn State football team and head coach Joe Paterno at a pep rally hosted by the Penn State Alumni Association and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics in advance of Tuesday night's Orange Bowl matchup with Florida State.

The Blue & White Society and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics are teaming up to host the traditional "Rally in the Valley" football pep rally at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, in Rec Hall. The Nittany Lion faithful will be pumped up and primed to get ready for the widely anticipated Beaver Stadium primetime clash between Penn State and Michigan on Saturday. The "Rally in the Valley" will begin immediately after the Penn State-Indiana women's volleyball match, which begins at 6:30 p.m. The first 5,500 fans who either remain at the volleyball match or arrive at Rec Hall will be admitted. The Blue & White Society and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics are teaming up to host the traditional Rally in the Valley football pep rally at approximately 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, in the Bryce Jordan Center following the Nittany Lion basketball team's exhibition game against Slippery Rock. Saturday's Ohio State football game has been declared a Penn State student White Out, and all students are encouraged to wear white to the game. (more)

Nittany Lion faithful can get pumped up and primed three hours before kickoff at each away game pep rally, organized by the Penn State Alumni Association. The first pep rally will be in Champaign, Ill., on Oct. 3 prior to the Illinois game. The Penn State Pep Rally tent will be located in the group tent area on the east side of Assembly Hall, off of Fourth Street. Like all Penn State Alumni Association pep rallies, the Illinois pep rally will feature the Pep Band, the Nittany Lion, cheerleaders and some rallying words from Penn State President Graham Spanier and the Alumni Association. The pep rally tent will open three hours before kickoff, which has not yet been announced. (more)

Nittany Lion fans with tickets to Tuesday's Penn State-Notre Dame NIT semifinal game in Madison Square Garden are encouraged to wear white and participate in the "Rally in the Garden" before tip-off. Fans are invited to join the Nittany Lion, the cheerleaders, the pep band and special Nittany Lion guests at 6:30 p.m. in the Theatre Lobby at Madison Square Garden for a Penn State-style pep rally. The Nittany Lions (25-11) and Fighting Irish (21-14) will clash at approximately 9:15 p.m., immediately following the Baylor-San Diego State semifinal at 7 p.m. (more)
