Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Cheri L. Ross has retired as associate professor emerita of English and humanities from Penn State Harrisburg's School of Humanities. Ross came to the campus in 1995 after teaching for three years at Penn State Mont Alto. She received her doctorate in English from Purdue University. (more)

Ziegenfuss retires from Penn State Harrisburg

James T. Ziegenfuss Jr. has retired as professor emeritus of management and health care systems from Penn State Harrisburg's School of Public Affairs. Ziegenfuss began his career at Penn State Harrisburg in 1983, teaching health administration and public administration courses. He received a master's degree from Penn State Harrisburg and a doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. (more)

Ellen Aschenbrenner retires from Police Services

Ellen Aschenbrenner has retired as a police officer with University Police at Penn State. Aschenbrenner began her career with University Police in August of 1984. During her 27 years in law enforcement, Aschenbrenner worked countless hours patrolling the campus as well as special events and all home football games. Ellen will spend part of her retirement volunteering for the Nittany Greyhounds, an organization that finds homes for ex-racing dogs. (more)
