On a sunny morning in early May, 10 nurses walked in their coveted caps and gowns and received their bachelor's degrees from Penn State Abington Chancellor Karen Wiley Sandler. Quite an accomplishment for these newly minted nurses considering the degree program at Abington campus was launched only nine short months ago, during the fall semester in 2011. (more)

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Practical Nursing Program is accepting applications for its spring 2012 cohort.
The program aims to provide a high quality noncredit certificate program, delivered through a part-time, 18-month evening and weekend curriculum, to prepare individuals with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes essential for practical nursing practice.

Amy M. Sawyer, assistant professor of nursing at Penn State, has been appointed to the Research Committee of the Sleep Research Society, an international organization that fosters scientific investigation of sleep and sleep disorders. Sawyer's appointment is effective June 2012 through June 2015. (more)

Promoting wellness for the mind, body and spirit is the theme of Penn State New Kensington's Holistic Nursing Conference that is set from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27, in the campus Conference Center. Caring for the whole person is central to the nursing profession. The program can help nurses gain insights into holistic care, which is caring for the whole person. Topics of presentations include "The Role of Nutrition," "Relaxation Techniques," "Spirituality,' and "Tapping and Energy Generation." Registration is $65 and includes lunch. Reservation deadline is April 20. The conference is sponsored by the campus' RN to BS Nursing program, which offers registered nurses the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree in their profession.
