Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

The University Libraries are offering classes in library research basics for students, employees and the public this semester. The classes are free and no registration is required. Participants will learn how to find books and other materials in The CAT, the online catalog and to use databases such as ProQuest to find articles online. (more)

The Libraries are offering a number of training sessions in fall for users of Refworks and Endnote. To register, go to: http://its.psu.edu/training. Refworks is a web-based citation management tool. The University Libraries are offering one-hour seminars on library research basics. The classes are free to the public. Learn how to search for materials in The CAT, the online catalog, find journal articles online and much more. Classes will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9; 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 and 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10. Seminars will be held in the Gateway Instruction Lab, 104 Pattee Library, near the main circulation area. (more)
