Penn State head women's lacrosse coach Suzanne Isidor has announced that former Northwestern standout Hannah Nielsen has been added to her coaching staff for the duration of the 2010 season. She will replace Tara Hohenshelt, who will serve as Director of Operations through May 2010. "I am thrilled to have Hannah join our staff," said Isidor, who is entering her 10th season at the helm of the Penn State program. "Her lacrosse resume is obviously one of the best. She is an outstanding person and will be a great mentor to our players. Hannah has had success at all levels of the game and I have no doubt that her coaching career will be a success as well. I am looking forward to working with her at Penn State this season." (more)
Kerry Shea (Baltimore, Md.) was recognized as Best Senior Midfielder by a nationwide vote in the 2009 LaxPower.com Fan Awards. Now in their third year, the LaxPower Fan Awards, are designed to acknowledge excellence and achievement in Division I lacrosse. The 2009 team co-captain beat out five other star midfielders for the honor. (more)
Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse player Drew Adams (Springfield, Pa.) has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I All-America team as an Honorable Mention selection. The senior goalie has earned honorable mention laurels three times in his four years with the team. (more)
Three members of the Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse team will take part in the 2009 USILA North/South All-Star game, to be played on Friday, May 22, at Harvard. The Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse team swept the weekly honors given out by the ECAC Lacrosse League after posting a 12-11 double-overtime win at No. 16 Georgetown to close out the 2009 season. Senior goalie Drew Adams (Springfield, Pa.), senior attack Rob Forster (Jenkintown, Pa.), and freshman attack Matthew Mackrides (Newtown Square, Pa.) were each honored in Penn State's final week in the ECAC Lacrosse League. Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse player Chris Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.) was named to the All-ECAC Lacrosse League first team, earning the honor for the first time in his career. Senior goalie Drew Adams (Springfield, Pa.) was named to the All-ECAC Lacrosse League second team. Hogan ended the campaign with 34 points off 29 goals and five assists on attack for Penn State. Five Penn State teams have earned a Public Recognition Award from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for earning high scores in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) compilation. The five teams -- field hockey, softball, women's lacrosse, women's tennis and wrestling -- all earned APR scores in the top 10 percent nationally for their respective sport during the 2007-08 academic year. The women's lacrosse, women's tennis and wrestling squads earned Public Recognition Awards for the third consecutive year and the NCAA recognized the field hockey and softball squads for the second straight year. Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse player Matthew Mackrides (Newtown Square, Pa.) has been named ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week. It is the first honor for the true freshman from Newtown Square. Mackrides scored the game-winning goal in Penn State's 12-11 ECAC overtime victory over St. John's on Saturday. Mackrides ended the game with five points off two goals and three assists in helping guide Penn State to its third straight win. (more)
