Beaver campus students will dance in THON

Two Penn State Beaver students will dance in Penn State's upcoming 46-hour Dance Marathon, known as THON, Feb. 17-19 at the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State University Park. Freshman Angelique Matthews, Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), is from Cypress, Calif., and JJ (James) Figas of Beaver is a sophomore in the DUS program.

Prior to the event, Beaver students are soliciting support from the campus and community, and will continue canning at approved locations this weekend and next.In addition, Beaver students will host a Blood Drive for THON, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Lodge of the Student Union Building. The public is invited to register to give blood, but walk-in appointments will also be accepted.

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society is now taking orders for its spring Berkey Creamery ice cream sale. Orders are being accepted through March 12 and ice cream will be available for pick up from 5-7 p.m. on March 29 at the campus in Center Valley. Proceeds from the ice cream sale benefit the Alumni Society's First-Year Scholarship fund for Penn State Lehigh Valley students.

This week Penn State Beaver students will continue fundraising efforts for Penn State THON -- an annual, two-day dance marathon -- that will be held Feb. 17-19 at the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State University Park. Beaver students are soliciting support from the campus community and will be canning during the upcoming weekends. In addition, Beaver students will host a Blood Drive for THON, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16 in the Lodge of the Student Union Building. The Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society is accepting orders through Oct. 24 for its annual Berkey Creamery ice cream sale. Ice cream orders will be available for pick up from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 10. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Alumni Society First Year Scholarship Fund. Those interested can choose from 14 flavors including Peachy Paterno, Bittersweet Mint and WPSU Coffee Break.

THON team to hold silent auction Feb. 8-12

The Penn State Lehigh Valley THON team will hold a silent auction during the week of Feb 8. Bids can be placed on a variety of donated items from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. All proceeds go directly to benefit THON and its mission to conquer childhood cancer. To prepare for the silent auction, the THON team will accept donations of items for the auction. In past auctions, donated items have included items such as handbags, Penn State gear and tickets to events. Regional professionals to teach 'Fundamentals of Fundraising'

Regional fundraising professionals are scheduled to teach "The Fundamentals of Fundraising," a Penn State Continuing Education certificate program available to nonprofit administrators, working fundraising professionals, volunteers with fundraising responsibility or anyone wishing to enter the development profession. The course will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College and at Penn State DuBois. (more)

WPSU-TV's June pledge drive exceeds fundraising goal

WPSU-TV raised more than $63,000 in the June pledge drive, which exceeds the station's goal of $45,000 by more than 140 percent. The drive was 11 days long and included fundraising around programs for both children and adults. (more)
