U.S. District Court Judge John E. Jones called on Penn State Law students to tackle the problem of adequate funding for courts during "Justice Unfunded--Justice Undone?" a panel discussion held at Lewis Katz Hall on November 10. "We're fortunate that some of the things that have happened elsewhere in the nation have not happened in Pennsylvania yet .... Law students ... are leaders of tomorrow and you need to understand that this is not going to get easier," he said. (more)

In an effort to raise public awareness of the importance of a strong, independent judiciary, the Judicial Independence Commission has partnered with Penn State Law, the Clarke Forum for Contemporary Issues at Dickinson College, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association to host a forum to explore the need for adequate funding to maintain the judiciary. Governor proposes level funding for Penn State in 2010-11

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell's 2010-11 budget plan for the Commonwealth, announced today (Feb. 9), proposes $333.9 million to support Penn State. This includes a base appropriation of $318 million and $15.8 million in federal stimulus money. This funding proposal is equivalent to the University's appropriation for 2009-10. (more)

The federal government has provided $1.33 billion in stimulus dollars to date toward transportation improvements in Pennsylvania. Using these funds to improve public safety is critical, according to experts.
