The Committee on Institutional Cooperation's (CIC) Academic Leadership Program has gained five additional Fellows from the Penn State ranks. The CIC is the academic consortium of the Big Ten universities plus the University of Chicago. Through its leadership program, participants who have demonstrated exceptional ability and administrative promise are aided in further developing their leadership and managerial skills.
Those selected from Penn State for the 2012-13 program are Anthony Atchley, Rhonda BeLue, Kathleen J. Bieschke, Mary Beth Rosson and Brenton Yarnal. (more)
When Rob Pangborn was named interim executive vice president and provost in November, Administrative Fellow Careen Yarnal transitioned with him to the Provost's Office from the Office of Undergraduate Education, and experienced her Fellowship from two perspectives. This year, two of the Fellows will have a similar opportunity, this time by design. Abigail Diehl, assistant dean for Alumni and College Relations and Leadership Initiatives in the College of Health and Human Development, and Annemarie Mountz, assistant director of Public Information, will split their Fellowships between mentors Damon Sims, vice president for Student Affairs, and Craig Weidemann, vice president for Outreach. Kathy Bieschke, professor of education, will be the Administrative Fellow for Pangborn in the Provost's Office. (more)
Penn State's Information Technology Services (ITS) is warning members of the University community to be alert for a new email phishing scam designed to coerce faculty, staff and students into revealing their Penn State WebAccess login IDs and passwords. The scam email directs readers to a website that looks nearly identical to the University's "thumbprint" WebAccess login page. (more)
The Hybrid and Hydrogen Vehicle Research Laboratory at Penn State's Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute is holding the 21st Century Automotive Challenge on the University Park campus May 17-20. Featured vehicles will represent a broad range of automotive power choices, such as electric, solar electric, hybrid, pluggable hybrid and biodiesel. (more)
One of the founding leaders of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, John Waldhausen, has died at the age of 82. Waldhausen was the founding chair of the Department of Surgery at the Medical Center and the College of Medicine and led the department for more than 25 years. (more)

The 2012 Rosemary Schraer Mentoring Award and the Achieving Women Awards acknowledge and exemplify the achievements and contributions among Penn Staters, reflecting the University's mission of mentorship, leadership, service, and promoting diversity.

Natural-gas development appears to be having a positive effect on the local collection of state taxes in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale region, according to a report by researchers in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences. "Marcellus Shale and Local Collection of State Taxes: What the 2011 Pennsylvania Tax Data Say" is a white paper published by the Penn State Center for Economic and Community Development. (more)
