Euphonium performance major wins national music competition
Thursday, April 30, 2009Gretchen Renshaw, a junior music major in euphonium performance at Penn State, was the national first-place winner of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Brass Competition in Atlanta, Ga. in March, after previously winning at the state and regional levels. She is the daughter of Ron and Coleen Renshaw of Middleburg. For the competition, she performed a 45-minute recital that included original music or transcriptions from the Baroque, Romantic and Contemporary time periods. Renshaw is a student of Velvet Brown, professor of music, who successfully coached three other students to this national award. (more)
