Penn State University Police are investigating multiple thefts which occurred in Pinchot Hall sometime between 1 a.m. April 14 and 1:30 p.m. April 15, in which multiple wallets and their contents valued at more than $1,350 were stolen. A witness described the suspect as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, with short "dirty blond" hair, thin build, wearing a light gray colored baseball cap on backwards, a light colored gray hoodie and dark colored sweatpants. In October of 2011, University Police investigated similar incidents involving the unknown male pictured here and believe the cases may be linked. (more)
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- State College Police report an armed robbery at 129 Locust Lane near the University Park campus. The description of the suspect has been updated and the location has now been verified by police. (more)
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Survivors Benefit Fund has established an undergraduate award for crime, law and justice majors in Penn State's College of the Liberal Arts in memory of Michael Weston, a DEA special agent and Marine officer who was killed on a joint counter-narcotics mission in Afghanistan.
The Michael E. Weston Memorial Award will recognize outstanding achievement by a crime, law and justice undergraduate major who is either on military active duty or a military veteran enrolled at Penn State. The award was created by a $25,000 gift from the DEA Survivors Benefit Fund to the Department of Sociology and Crime, Law and Justice in the College of the Liberal Arts. "We are honored that the DEA has chosen our crime, law, and justice program to establish this tribute to Mike Weston," said Susan Welch, the Susan Welch Dean of the College of the Liberal Arts. Jack Levin will offer a free presentation titled "Serial Killers: Up Close and Personal," at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the auditorium of the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. The public is invited to attend. Levin specializes in the study of violence and hate, and has examined and interviewed serial killers, mass murderers, violent criminals and perpetrators of hate crimes while exploring their methods and mentalities. He is the author or co-author of 30 books about crime, criminals, and hate, and has developed theories about conditions under which the worst crimes can occur. (more)

The popular CSI: Fayette series -- a series of public forums that examine topics related to crime and law enforcement issues -- is gearing up to continue in 2011. The first forum is slated from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 11, in the Corporate Training Center at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. This first CSI: Fayette (Crime Subjects Investigated) forum for 2011 will examine the role of juries in the criminal justice system. (more)
Penn State University Police are investigating an indecent exposure incident that occurred in the early morning hours Thursday (Dec. 16) in a University Park residence hall. The incident occurred between 1-1:30 a.m, on the fourth floor of Runkle Hall. The actor is described as a light-skinned, college-age male who was wearing a black knit ski hat that revealed only his eyes and mouth. He was wearing dark clothing, including athletic pants, a cotton shirt and lightweight jacket. Police have been investigating a number of indecent exposure incidents occurring on campus since August 2009, with similar descriptions of the actor(s). Police believe this most recent incident is related. (more)
University Park, PA -- University police and firefighters from Alpha Fire Co. responded to an early morning fire (Nov. 9) on campus that caused about $5,000 worth of damage and is now being called a case of arson. No one was hurt in the minor blaze that appears to have started with some type of accelerant around 5:35 a.m. in a small area at Redifer Commons near Louie's convenience store off McKean Street.
