Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

The symposium planned for April 9 on the topic of "Corporate Social Responsibility in Collegiate Licensing" on the University Park campus should address myriad concerns about working conditions in businesses that manufacture collegiate merchandise. A symposium is planned for April 9 on the University Park campus to promote collaboration and discussion among various constituencies that impact working conditions in businesses that manufacture collegiate merchandise, and to bring to the public accurate information about Penn State's continued commitment to assessing and improving labor conditions for apparel workers around the world. Titled "Corporate Social Responsibility in Collegiate Licensing," the symposium will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in 135 Reber Building. The event will provide a broad perspective on corporate social responsibility in collegiate licensing from a diverse panel of industry professionals who will provide comments and then respond to written questions submitted by those attending. The event is open to all members of the University community. (more)
