The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team was simply dominating on Sunday (March 4), crowning three repeat champions in a perfect title match run and rolling to the team's second straight Big Ten Championship. Penn State was nearly perfect throughout the Sunday session and ran away from both Minnesota and Iowa in the team title race. Penn State has also qualified nine wrestlers for NCAAs with a 10th alive for an at-large bid. Coquese Washington named Big Ten Coach of the Year

Coquese Washington was named Big Ten Coach of the Year while Maggie Lucas and Alex Bentley were selected first-team All-Big Ten.

After leading the Lady Lions to their first Big Ten regular-season title since 2004, Coquese Washington was selected as the Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the coaches and media. Junior guard Alex Bentley (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore guard Maggie Lucas (Narberth, Pa.) were both named to the All-Big Ten first team by the coaches and media after stellar seasons. The Lady Lions have 26 All-Big Ten first team selections, the most of any team in the Big Ten since joining the conference in 1992-93. (more)

The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team was honored by the Big Ten Network during the fourth annual BTN Awards Show as the Big Ten's 2010-11 Men's Team of the Year. Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson was also tabbed as the 2010-11 Big Ten Men's Head Coach of the Year. The Nittany Lion wrestlers were the 2011 Big Ten Champions, claiming the school's first ever conference title, in early March in Northwestern and then winning the 2011 NCAA National Championship in Philadelphia on March 17-19 in front of a partisan Penn State crowd at the Wells Fargo Center. Penn State beat out the Ohio State men's basketball team and the Wisconsin football team to claim the honor. (more)

Penn State head coach Coquese Washington has been selected as the 2011 BCA Female Coach of the Year by the Black Coaches & Administrators. The BCA Award recipients will be honored during the 2011 BCA National Convention and Expo, during a luncheon event on Friday, May 27 at the Renaissance Vinoy St. Petersburg (Fla.) Resort & Golf Club. Washington recently completed her fourth season at the helm of the Lady Lions. Penn State returned to the national stage this season with a second-place finish in the Big Ten regular season standings, a runner-up finish in the Big Ten Tournament and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Seniors Joe Kovacs (Nazereth, Pa.) and Ryan Foster (Tasmania, Australia) have been named Mid-Atlantic Athletes of the Year, while Associate Head Coach Chris Johnson garnered Mid-Atlantic Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, announced by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday. Kovacs and Foster are set to compete in the shot put and mile run, respectively, at the weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M University, while Johnson has the Nittany Lion sprinters poised for another outstanding NCAA showing. The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team was nearly perfect on day two of the 2011 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, going 5-0 in the championship finals and winning the school's first ever Big Ten wrestling championship. Five wins in the finals and key bonus points in consolations helped spark Penn State to a one-point victory over runner-up Iowa. Sophomore Andrew Long (Creston, Iowa), junior Frank Molinaro (Barnegat, N.J.), freshman David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio), freshman Ed Ruth (Harrisburg, Pa.) and sophomore Quentin Wright (Wingate, Pa.) each claimed Big Ten crowns at their weights. The No. 8 Penn State women's volleyball team (28-5) collected five All-Mideast Region honors, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today. Senior Blair Brown (Purcellville, Va.), senior Arielle Wilson (Broadview, Ill.) and freshman Deja McClendon (Louisville, Ky.) were three of 14 players named to the all-region squad. In addition, McClendon was named the Mideast Region Freshman of the Year and head coach Russ Rose was honored as the Mideast Region Coach of the Year. (more)
