A team of scientists has developed a promising new strategy for "reactivating" genes that cause cancer tumors to shrink and die. The researchers hope that their discovery will aid in the development of an innovative anti-cancer drug that effectively targets unhealthy, cancerous tissue without damaging healthy, non-cancerous tissue and vital organs. The research will be published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. (more)

Bears' wives and girlfriends raise money for breast cancer research

This past October, the significant others - girlfriends and wives - of the Hershey Bears celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research at Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute. The fundraiser featured an auction of Hershey Bears' player-designed pink bracelets and player-autographed pink jerseys. Fans were able to bid on the items, which were on display on the concourse, during an October home game. The auction raised $4,000. (more)
