Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

Bacon, eggs and bread are being gathered in preparation for Penn State York's free late-night breakfast, set for 8-10 p.m. on Monday, April 30, at the the Lion's Den of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center on campus. Members of the faculty, staff and alumni will sharpen their culinary skills, along with some help from the staff in the campus's dining area, and prepare egg sandwiches for hungry students who need a break from their final-exam studies. Coffee, donuts and soda will complete the menu for the evening. The event is free to members of the Penn State York community. (more)

Bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese, and slices of white and wheat bread are being gathered in preparation for Penn State York's free late night breakfast set for Monday, Dec. 12 from 8-10 p.m. at the campus. Members of the faculty, staff, and alumni will sharpen their culinary skills, along with some help from the staff in the campus' dining area, and prepare egg sandwiches for hungry students needing a break from studying for finals. Coffee, donuts, orange juice, soda, and mini Danish and muffins complete the menu for the evening. The event is free to members of the Penn State York community and takes place in the Lion's Den of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center. (more)

Your mother was right -- breakfast is the most important meal of the day, according to an expert in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences. Eating breakfast improves concentration, memory and problem-solving ability, said Katherine French, registered dietitian and extension educator in Mercer County. French offers several recommendations to encourage even reluctant breakfast-eaters to consume healthy, filling morning calories. (more)
