The Fifth Annual Coquese's Drive for the Centre County Women's Resource Center presented by the Lady Lion Cager Club will take place on Friday, Aug. 31 at the Penn State Blue Course, Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington announced today. The tournament will commence with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Centre County Women's Resource Center. (more)
Penn State basketball will offer five boys basketball camp opportunities on the University Park campus this summer beginning June 1-3 with the Father/Son Camp. Head coach Patrick Chambers, the Nittany Lion coaching staff and several current Nittany Lion players will be joined by former Nittany Lion players and regional coaches as they conduct a variety of camp opportunities covering several skill levels through the month of June. The Penn State Coaches Caravan will make six stops at events in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut as the tour enters its second week. Football Coach Bill O'Brien will be joined by Lady Lion basketball coach Coquese Washington, men's golf coach Greg Nye and women's volleyball coach Russ Rose at various stops throughout the week. The Coaches Caravan, presented by the Nittany Lion Club and Penn State Alumni Association, is making 18 stops in seven states and Washington, D.C. The Penn State women's basketball team held its annual postseason banquet Saturday (April 28) at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel and honored both players and supporters of the program for their dedication and commitment during the season. Sophomore guard Maggie Lucas (Narberth, Pa.) claimed the Joanie O'Brien Most Outstanding Player Award, while junior guard Alex Bentley (Indianapolis, Ind.) garnered the Collegiate Pride Defensive Player of the Year Award. Penn State incoming freshman Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif./Silverado) has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2012 USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team Trials. The 6-6 center is one of 26 of the nation's top U18 that have accepted invitations to attend the 2012 USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team Trials, which will take place May 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Patrick Chambers added another big post presence to his first Penn State basketball recruiting class Thursday (May 3) when Berks Catholic all-state forward Donovon Jack (Reading, Pa.) completed and signed paperwork confirming his intent to attend Penn State University and play for the Nittany Lions. The 6-9, 205-pound forward becomes the third and tallest member of Chambers' 2012 signing class. (more)
Following an outstanding winter athletic campaign, highlighted by an NCAA Wrestling Championship most recently, Penn State sits third in the most recent 2011-12 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings. The Penn State Coaches Caravan kicks off April 30 with a lunch event in downtown Philadelphia and an evening reception and program in Delaware County. The Nittany Lion Club and Penn State Alumni Association are teaming up to give fans a chance to meet and hear from football coach Bill O'Brien and other leaders of Penn State Athletics with a bus tour encompassing 18 stops in seven states and Washington, D.C. during the course of three weeks. The first week also includes programs in Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Richmond, Va.; and the Harrisburg-Hershey, Pa. area. (more)
