The HUB-Robeson Galleries will display an exciting new collection of railroad art assembled from all over the United States in the HUB Gallery, at the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus, from May 31 through July 29. The exhibit will feature 30 American railroad artists from all parts of the country. They include J. Craig Thorpe from Washington state, who does work for Amtrak, as well as GE's locomotive division and the Union Tank Car Company, Angela Trotta Thomas of New Jersey, who is known to many for her Lionel catalog covers, and Frank Crowe in Georgia, whose works hang in the state capitol. An artist's reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on June 8. (more)

The Center for the Performing Arts Classical Music Project -- soon to begin its second season -- demonstrates the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and other classical composers is alive and well in the 21st century. The three-year Classical Music Project, supported by a $470,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation plus an additional $317,000 from various Penn State partners, provides unprecedented opportunities to connect students, faculty and the community with classical music artists and programs. The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State's 2012-2013 season of music, theater and dance presentations from around the world features the Centre County debut of the musical comedy The Addams Family, the touring Broadway shows Hair and Tap Dogs, Toronto's Opera Atelier in The Magic Flute, the return of Bela Fleck and Tony Trischka with an elite line-up of banjo buddies and the second season of a three-year journey through the string quartets of Ludwig van Beethoven. Free public gardening workshops will be a featured attraction when the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Centre County hold their annual Garden Fair and Plant Sale, May 19. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Ag Progress Days grounds at Rock Springs, nine miles southwest of State College on state Route 45. (more)
A dramatic reading of his one-woman play, "Blavatsky," marks the centenary of Penn State professor and author Warren Sylvester Smith (1912-1984). "Blavatsky" will be performed at the State Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. (more)

Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform Nov. 13 at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State's University Park campus, as part of her North American "blown away tour." Tickets for the performance will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 18. (more)
