A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

This trend is the result of Penn State's dedicated Military Admissions and Advising Team.

Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to discover the benefits of attending Penn State New Kensington at the spring open house at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14. The event gives prospective students and families a chance to explore the University, meet with campus staff, faculty and alumni, and tour the campus with current students as hosts. Patty Brady, director of enrollment management, and the Admissions staff will talk about the admission process and student-aid opportunities. The open house is one of several programs in the spring and summer to acquaint prospective students with the campus and Penn State's wide variety of academic programs. The third and final "Be a Penn State Student for a Day" program is set from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28. Prospective students can sit in on college classes, interact with current students and take in the campus' atmosphere. Penn State World Campus, Continuing Education, Student Affairs and Undergraduate Admissions are hosting an employee information session on the employee tuition discount and other college-related subjects from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Rooms 129A, B and C in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus.

During this free session, University Park campus employees who are eligible for the University's tuition benefit, as well as their family members, are invited to stop by to talk with staff members from the sponsoring units about how they can use their education benefit. (more)

It is not too late to apply to Penn State New Kensington for the coming fall semester. The campus' admissions office is holding Application Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, for high school students and adult learners. The New Kensington admissions staff will be on-hand to guide prospective students through the application process. Those who complete the application and designate the New Kensington campus as their first choice will receive a waiver for the $50 application fee. Additionally, applicants to New Kensington may receive an admissions decision immediately if they bring a high school transcript and their SAT or ACT scores. Sandy Feather has been promoted to director of enrollment management at Penn State Worthington Scranton.

Feather has been employed at Penn State Worthington Scranton since 2005. As associate director of enrollment management and admissions, she was responsible for establishing several new programs at the campus, such as Partners in Success, the Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, and instituted program target marketing and middle school outreach efforts to enhance Worthington Scranton's overall student recruitment and retention goals.
