The New Kensington campus summer classes comprise five sessions of three weeks, five weeks, eight weeks or 12 weeks. The first session runs three weeks, May 7 to 25, followed by the 12-week session that runs from May 7 to July 28. The first five-week session begins May 29 and ends June 29; the eight-week session is scheduled May 29 to July 20; and the second five-week session starts on July 2 and goes until Aug. 3. Penn State York will honor the academic achievements and service of its outstanding students, faculty and staff for the 2011-12 year at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, during the 41st annual Academic Awards Ceremony. The event will take place at Heritage Hills Golf Resort & Conference Center, 2700 Mt. Rose Ave., York, Pa. More than 80 academic and service awards will be presented during the program. (more)
Promoting wellness for the mind, body and spirit is the theme of Penn State New Kensington's Holistic Nursing Conference that is set from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27, in the campus Conference Center. Caring for the whole person is central to the nursing profession. The program can help nurses gain insights into holistic care, which is caring for the whole person. Topics of presentations include "The Role of Nutrition," "Relaxation Techniques," "Spirituality,' and "Tapping and Energy Generation." Registration is $65 and includes lunch. Reservation deadline is April 20. The conference is sponsored by the campus' RN to BS Nursing program, which offers registered nurses the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree in their profession. The third information session on the Penn State Master of Business Administration Program is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry, Pa. Penn State New Kensington will partner with Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, to offer the MBA degree in the fall.

Penn State's University Sustainability Council is drafting the University's first strategic plan for sustainability. The council is seeking public input for five-goal plan during the drafting process. The second goal of Penn State's Strategic Plan for Sustainability aims to educate students about sustainability. "Students are requesting more sustainability instruction, aware that employers are seeking to hire graduates who are knowledgeable about sustainability," said Rob Pangborn, vice president and dean for Undergraduate Education. "Penn State can play a unique role in addressing one of our society's most pressing issues by bringing faculty expertise and emerging research to the classroom, to produce graduates who also can lead in this effort." Chancellor Kevin Snider conferred undergraduate degrees to 95 graduates, and William Bigos, assistant professor of graduate education at Penn State Harrisburg, conferred master of education degrees to eight graduates on May 14 at the 52nd spring commencement exercises at Penn State New Kensington.
David Ciesinski, group vice president and chief marketing officer for Heinz U.S. Consumer Products, a business unit of the H.J. Heinz Company, delivered the commencement address, "The Journey Ahead," and Lorri Wildi, president of the Alle-Kiski Society, inducted the new graduates into the Penn State Alumni Association. (more)
