Lou Ingargiola, class of 1992 in finance, will be named the Penn State Worthington Scranton Alumni Society's 2011 Alumnus of the Year at a campus reception in his honor on Wednesday, Feb. 29.
Ingargiola is president and founder of Ingargiola Wealth Management Group, located in Dunmore, Pa. (more)
The Center for Rural Pennsylvania has awarded a research grant to Dr. Janet Melnick, senior instructor in Human Development and Family Studies and HDFS program coordinator at Penn State Worthington Scranton; and Dr. Heather Shanks-McElroy, MSW, B.Ed., associate professor and coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Teaching: Child and Society program at Keystone College.
Their project, Home- and Community-Based Care Alternatives to Nursing Homes in Rural Pennsylvania willbegin Feb. 1 and end Jan. 31, 2013. The grant they received was for $48,430.

Penn State Worthington Scranton recently honored employees for landmark years of service during the campus' annual Staff Service Awards and Welcome Back luncheon.
All campus staff and employees were invited to the event and those employees celebrating milestone anniversaries were honored for their years of service to the Worthington Scranton community. Mary-Beth Krogh-Jespersen, chancellor, presented the awards.

Sandy Feather has been promoted to director of enrollment management at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
Feather has been employed at Penn State Worthington Scranton since 2005. As associate director of enrollment management and admissions, she was responsible for establishing several new programs at the campus, such as Partners in Success, the Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, and instituted program target marketing and middle school outreach efforts to enhance Worthington Scranton's overall student recruitment and retention goals. Phil Grosz, owner/editor of the Blue White Illustrated, will make his 29th annual appearance at Penn State Worthington Scranton on Friday, February 3.
Mr. Grosz's presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the campus' Multi-Purpose Building. Admission is free for chapter members; $15 for non-members. Memberships will be available at the door that evening. Light refreshments will be provided.
Doors open at 6 p.m. There is no reserved seating.

Mary-Beth Krogh-Jespersen, chancellor, has announced that Griff Lewis is the new instructional designer at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
In his new position, Lewis will be responsible for developing instructional design services, materials, and delivery methods at the campus; integrating technology into teaching, learning, and research activities; and collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in developing instructional materials for projects and delivery.

Penn State Worthington Scranton's (PSWS) first-ever Zumba-THON raised over $900 and brought together more than 100 students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members to raise money for this year's THON.
The two-hour event, the first of its kind held at Worthington Scranton, was billed as a mini-dance marathon centered on the new and popular exercise, ZUMBA. Everyone who attended, was asked for a minimum $5 donation, with all proceeds benefiting THON. The PSWS Alumni Society and Blue and White Society also donated several Penn State-themed baskets and gifts as raffle prizes, raising additional money by selling raffle tickets.
The event attracted the attention of local press, with a feature article in The Scranton Times-Tribune, and a live television appearance by Andrea Summa and Peggy Opalka, a student organizer, on the local talk show Northeast PA Live. (more)
Michael D. Michalisin, professor of management, and business program coordinator at Penn State Worthington Scranton, presented a paper he co-authored, "Sustained Competitive Advantage through Green Supply Chain Management Practices: A Natural-Resource-Based View Approach," at the 2011 annual meeting of the Academy of Management. Christopher Lewis is the new enrollment services specialist at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
He has worked as an admissions counselor at Marywood University and most recently was the senior assistant director of admissions at Binghamton University.
Mr. Lewis also has experience in transfer and adult recruitment, strategic planning and 90-day action plans, data management, and is particularly skilled in the use of a variety of admissions and enrollment services/management software programs.
