New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State Brandywine recently established the Laboratory for Civic Engagement to encourage leadership among students and develop scholarship in the community while promoting citizenship on a local-to-global level. This initiative will allow students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to work together to achieve these goals. (more)

Penn State Brandywine to host TEDxPSU Watch Party

On Sunday, Nov. 13, Penn State Brandywine will host a TEDxPSU Watch Party as part of a larger event being held at University Park to bring together innovative and thought-provoking individuals to share ideas worth spreading. The participants at the Brandywine event will interact with those at University Park and around the world via the web to engage in dialogue about the challenges and opportunities facing society. Following a successful inaugural run last year, this year's TEDxPSU event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Nov. 13, on Penn State's University Park campus. The event, being held in the spirit of the internationally-acclaimed nonprofit, Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED), is meant to bring together individuals from the Penn State community and the world to share ideas worth spreading through live talks and pre-recorded videos. Potential presenters who have the desire to broadcast their unique messages are encouraged to complete the speaker application, available at http://www.tedxpsu.com/ online, by the Aug. 12 deadline. Penn State Brandywine will host a local "watch party" at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, in the Tomezsko Classroom Building, room 103, for TEDxPSU, a day-long event bringing together innovative and thought-provoking individuals from the University community to share ideas worth spreading. The event will be held at the Schwab Auditorium in State College, but will be streamed live for the Brandywine campus' watch party, which is open to the public. (more)

Innovators in technology, entertainment and design from around the world will come together to spread new and engaging ideas at TEDxPSU, which will be held Oct. 10 in Schwab Auditorium on Penn State's University Park campus. "Our team of dedicated volunteers worked incredibly hard over the summer to put together the program that we're announcing today," said Steve Garguilo, TEDxPSU executive director. "It's impossible to quantify our level of excitement right now as we prepare to share in this experience with the Penn State community.
