University Health Services (UHS) has received 4,000 doses of injectable H1N1 flu vaccine that will be distributed to Penn State students from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4.
Thursday's clinic will be held in 205 Student Health Center on Penn State's University Park campus. Appointments will be available beginning Wednesday, Nov. 25 and must be scheduled online through the UHS Web site at http://www.sa.psu.edu/uhs/basics/online_access.cfm online. Friday's clinic will be held in 129 HUB-Robeson Center. No appointment is necessary for Friday's clinic.
UHS strongly encourages all students to get vaccinated and students involved in THON in particular should make a point of receiving a vaccination. (more)
Natasha Gates, LSW recently joined the staff of University Health Services (UHS), Penn State's student health service at the University Park campus. Gates will act as case manager and advocate for students navigating complex medical issues. Students also are referred to Gates for assistance in coordinating care between providers, prescription assistance, insurance issues and medical assistance.
Penn State Career Services recently created a Facebook fan page that will inform students, faculty, and staff of upcoming events and the various services and resources available to them. The fan page will feature photos from workshops, article postings, NACE statistics, and various tips of the day from Career Services. Thanksgiving is a time to share, but no one wants to share the flu. University Health Services (UHS) encourages Penn State students to get vaccinated against H1N1 before returning home for the holiday break. A clinic will be held in 205 Student Health Center on Penn State's University Park campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to distribute free H1N1 nasal spray vaccine to students 18 to 24 years of age. Penn State always has had a strong reputation for producing top talent for General Electric. Because of this, General Electric has awarded a shared GE Partnership Award to Penn State Career Services, the College of Communications and the Smeal College of Business. The GE Partnership Award is presented to schools who are top producers of GE talent and whose students excel in academics, leadership and work experience. Students Engaging Students and the Office of Student Activities are once again hosting a Thanksgiving Day Basket Drive for AIDS Project of Centre County and Food Bank of State College families in need. By making a donation of just one Thanksgiving Basket, student groups or University departments can support a family for which it is difficult to provide a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal and make their holiday brighter. Completed baskets are due to the Office of Student Activities in 209 HUB-Robeson Center only during the following drop off times: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Nov. 13. Do you ever wonder if you have enough experience to land the internship or co-op you would love to have? Career Services will help students identify the various types of experiences that will benefit their career plans through the Got Experience? events on Nov. 3 and Nov. 10.
There will be four programs that cover a broad spectrum of career areas. Students from any major are encouraged to attend the session(s) that best fit their career interests and goals. These programs will help introduce students to the importance of gaining experience during their college careers, as well as the various ways to gain that experience and build the skills necessary for success in their careers after Penn State. Effective stress management is an important part of a balanced and healthy life. This fall students and staff can "relax, relieve and restore" at University Health Services (UHS). The Health Promotion and Wellness resource area is home to a new de-stress zone. UHS modeled the space after a similar one created by Catherine Augustine, of the College of Education, at the Penn Stater. (more)
Most college students are interested in sex. The HIV/AIDS Risk Reduction Advisory Council (HARRAC) helps Penn State students make better decisions surrounding this popular topic. HARRAC provides students with information about safer sex practices, STI's and HIV/AIDS in a fun and interactive environment called a safer sex party. (more)
