Penn State students who are interested in promoting health among their peers can apply to participate in HealthWorks, a student peer education and outreach program within University Health Services (UHS). Membership applications will be accepted through March 2 for the 2012 - 2013 school year. (more)

She spoke about leadership and daring to take risks, pointing out that failure isn't always unproductive and can often be a stepping stone to success. Huffington spoke Thursday (Feb. 9) in Eisenhower Auditorium at Penn State's University Park campus and was the third lecturer for the 2011-12 Distinguished Speaker Series held by the Student Programming Association. The University Office of Global Programs (UOGP) is now accepting nominations for the Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Award. This award honors and recognizes outstanding contributions to international understanding by graduate and undergraduate international students (holding non-immigrant status) enrolled in a full-time academic program at any Penn State campus. Exemplary contributions furthering international understanding consist of academic, athletic, or other extra-curricular campus activities and/or community involvement in school or civic group programs or service projects. Past recipients have made contributions in more than one area. (more)
Each semester University Health Services (UHS) sees a few cases of Chickenpox. UHS recommends that Penn State students check their health record for adequate immunization against Chickenpox. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines adequate immunization as two doses of the Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine for those who have not had the disease. Vaccination is also recommended for individuals who were infected with a mild case (just a few chickenpox lesions). (more)
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Qualitest Pharmaceuticals have recalled the following birth control pills: Cyclafem 7/7/7, Cyclafem 1/35, Emoquette, Gildess FE 1.5/30, Gildess FE 1/20, Orsythia, Previfem and Tri-Previfem. The University Health Services (UHS) pharmacy on the University Park campus of Penn State does not stock any of the recalled pills. (more)

Nominations are being accepted for the Spirit of Internationalization Award which acknowledges women from Penn State University and the local community who excel in academic achievements, artistic excellence, volunteerism in international organizations or dedication to advancing the status of women. The award will be presented by Penn State's University Office of Global Programs at their fifth annual breakfast in celebration of International Women's Day. It will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, in the boardroom of the Nittany Lion Inn. (more)

Now on the third semester, GELE is bringing U.S. and international students into small groups bridging the gap, developing cultural leaderships skills, and creating a global Penn State. (more)
The "Extreme Stater" competition, designed for adventure-seeking undergraduate students on Penn State's University Park campus, will be held April 14. Twenty-five teams will compete on Stone Valley's outdoor obstacle course, which includes vertical challenges, running, team obstacles and more. Registration for the event begins Monday, March 12 in the Adventure Recreation Center, Room 133A of the White Building on the University Park campus. Early registration may be necessary to guarantee a spot. (more)
