Coach Joe Paterno and a trio of standout student-athletes will represent Penn State at the 39th Annual Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon Festivities, August 2-3 in Chicago. Pre-season All-Americans Evan Royster (Fairfax, Va.) and Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville) and junior cornerback D'Anton Lynn (Celina, Texas) will join Paterno at the prestigious event. Activities will be held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago as the Big Ten prepares for its 115th season of football competition. The Kickoff activities will include news conferences with every Big Ten head coach and players from each squad. Interviews with print and electronic media will take place on both days. The Kickoff Luncheon is August 3, with a crowd of more than 1,500 expected to attend. (more)

The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) annually presents the prestigious honor to the nation's top interior lineman. A senior guard, Wisniewski has been named a 2010 first team pre-season All-American by Sporting News, Phil Steele's College Football Preview and Lindy's Football Preview thus far. (more)

Penn State guard Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville) has been selected a 2010 pre-season first team All-American by Lindy's Football Preview. A senior this fall, Wisniewski earned third team All-America and first team All-Big Ten accolades in 2009, starting all 13 games at center for the Nittany Lions. He moved back to guard during spring practice, where he started 12 games in 2008, helping Penn State win the Big Ten Championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl. (more)

A first team All-Big Ten center in 2009, Wisniewski is among 12 players from the conference who candidates for the prestigious award, which is limited to down linemen and those defensive players who line up within five yards of the football. For the second consecutive year, the Penn State Football program is at the head of the class in ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selections. Three Nittany Lions have repeated their Academic All-America accolades on the 2009 team: senior linebacker Josh Hull (Millheim), senior kick snapper Andrew Pitz (Bettendorf, Iowa) and junior center Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville). The Nittany Lions' total is second-highest in the nation among Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The group is led by three Nittany Lions who earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors in 2008. Senior linebacker Josh Hull (Millheim) and senior kick snapper Andrew Pitz (Bettendorf, Iowa) were first team Academic All-Americans and junior center Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville) was selected a second team Academic All-American last year. They are joined on the 2009 Academic All-District team by senior punter Jeremy Boone (Mechanicsburg), who earns the honor for the second consecutive year. (more)
Penn State junior Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville) is among the nominees for the Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team, which honors college football players who make outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. One of the team's most active members in community service, Wisniewski has participated in the Student-Athlete Advisory Board Autism Awareness reading program, THON Make-A-Wish program, Pennsylvania Special Olympics State Summer Games, Habitat for Humanity, Athletic Director's Leadership Institute, Athletes in Action, and The Second Mile, in addition to other charitable activities.
