When Penn State President Graham B. Spanier delivers this year's State of the University Address to the University's Board of Trustees at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, the entire University community and beyond will be able to watch live on the Web, regardless of location. Spanier continues to evolve his delivery style to reach a wider audience in discussions about Penn State and what it means to its students, the Commonwealth, the nation and the world. With streaming technology now easier than ever, Spanier will use Ustream to broadcast his presentation online in real-time for thousands to see simultaneously. The video then will be captured, archived and made available for future viewing. In this year's presentation, Spanier will discuss the importance of maintaining the University's land-grant mission in the face of declining financial resources; recount the impact the University has on the Commonwealth beyond its 24 campuses; take a brief look back at where the University has been; and look ahead at what's on the horizon. President Graham B. Spanier's State of the University video was shown at the University's Board of Trustees meeting today (Sept. 17). The video, which replaces the speech Spanier has given in previous years, also will be broadcast on WPSU as part of the "To the Best of My Knowledge" program, and has been made available online. Penn State President Graham B. Spanier will deliver his 2009 State of the University Address in video format to the University's Board of Trustees beginning at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11. The video portrait will offer a glimpse of some of the ways Penn State is changing the world through research, scholarship and service. After the board presentation the video will be posted to the president's Web site for viewing by Penn State faculty, staff and students, as well as the general public. The video also will be shown on "To the Best of My Knowledge" on WPSU-TV and PCN at 8 p.m. on Sept. 15, and on the Big Ten Network at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sept. 16 and again at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 23. Discussing the current state of affairs at Penn State, President Graham Spanier presented remarks today (Nov. 18) at the annual membership luncheon for the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County (CBICC). The president touched on the current economic turmoil in the U.S. and how it may be affecting the University. He also discussed construction on the University Park campus, the success of Penn State sports teams, the University's commitment to the Centre Region, its research prowess and its vast reach across the state.
