New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State center Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville) is featured in the November issue of Sports Illustrated Kids. A junior majoring in secondary education, a story on Wisniewski and his typical weekday during the football season appears in the magazine. A 2008 second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, Wisniewski is on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Teen Bonus Section that appears inside this month's SI Kids. (more)

Penn State's legendary Heisman Trophy winner, John Cappelletti, and national media personality Dan Patrick will be among the participants at the Sports Illustrated Heisman Tour Presented by Nissan here this weekend. The event celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Heisman Trophy. The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 and will precede the highly-anticipated Penn State-Ohio State clash, which will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Stadium's 300th game. (more)

Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Joe Posnanski takes an in-depth look at the life, family and career of Paterno in eight pages of the magazine's NBA Preview issue. Posnanski's profile on the legendary coach is an elongated thank-you note to Joe's father, Angelo, who allowed Joe to forgo a career as a lawyer and follow his passion -- for 60 years and counting. The Penn State football team graces the cover of the Aug. 17 issue of Sports Illustrated, with a photo of senior quarterback Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio) and junior center Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville). The Nittany Lions are one of four regional covers for SI's College Football Preview issue, which will be available on newsstands later this week. Mississippi, Oklahoma State and Oregon are the other schools featured on the regional covers. The issue with the Penn State cover will be distributed throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Upper Midwest. Sports Illustrated ranks Penn State No. 14 in its pre-season Top 20 and predicts the Nittany Lions will make their third Bowl Championship Series appearance in the past five years, facing Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl.
