New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Five Penn State men's gymnasts who were key to the program's success in 2012, Mackenzie Dow (Cranford, N.J.), Miguel Pineda (Galloway, Ohio), Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield, Pa.), Craig Hernandez (Libertyville, Ill.), and Matthew Felleman (Medway, Mass.), qualified for the 2012 Visa Championships based on their performances at the U.S. Men's Qualifier the weekend of May 4-6 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Seven Penn State men's gymnasts, Felix Aronovich (Kiryat Bialik, Israel), Adrian Evans (Boulder, Colo.), Craig Hernandez (Libertyville, Ill.), Nihir Kothari (Malvern, Pa.), Parker Raque (Louisville, Ky.), Nestor Rodriguez (Guaynabo, P.R.), and Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield, Pa.) earned All-America honors with top eight finishes in the individual finals of the 2012 National Collegiate Championships on Saturday (April 21) night at Oklahoma's Lloyd Noble Center. Penn State junior Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield, Pa.) and freshman Tristan Duverglas (West Orange, N.J.) have been recognized with Big Ten weekly gymnastics honors for their standout performances in the No. 2 Nittany Lions' 355.500-347.200 road victory over No. 7 Ohio State last weekend. Rosenthal was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the third time in his career while Duverglas earned his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolade this season. (more)
