Nominations are now being accepted for the Presidential Leadership Academy class for Fall 2012.
Each spring, the Academy selects 30 rising sophomores (current freshmen who will be sophomores next semester) at the University Park campus for its incoming class. The three-year leadership development program includes a one-credit honors class taught by the Penn State president, a three-credit honors course taught by the Schreyer Honors College dean, field trips and other activities. A minimum 3.2 grade-point average is required for selection. (more)

Members of the Presidential Leadership Academy will present policy recommendations to address fan behavior at sporting events to a panel of Penn State administrators and faculty members at 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the HUB-Robeson Center Auditorium on the Penn State campus. (more)

Popular media frequently distill the complex issues facing the world today into sound bites, talking points and occasional shouting matches among opposing sides. A new Penn State initiative spearheaded by University President Graham Spanier, however, is seeking to ensure that the next generation of leaders develops the critical thinking skills necessary to make decisions based on all angles of a complicated issue. Penn State President Graham Spanier announced today the creation of the Presidential Leadership Academy, a leadership development program being established through a $5 million gift to the University from alumni Edward R. and Helen S. Hintz. The academy is structured to develop critical thinking skills and have participating students apply those skills to decisions on complex public policy, societal and global issues that they may encounter in coming years as leaders in business, industry, government and communities.
