New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

The Harrisburg-based improvisational comedy troupe, Don't Break the Streak, will hold a benefit for Children's Miracle Network at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. The event, titled "Comedy from the Heart," will consist of four improv comedy shows at 8 and 10:30 p.m. on May 20 and 21 at the Harrisburg Comedy Zone, 110 Limekiln Road, in New Cumberland, Pa. Construction workers placed the final steel beam atop the new Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, marking a milestone in the construction of the freestanding building, in a topping-off ceremony held Feb. 8. The beam bearing the signatures of patients, staff, students, volunteers, donors, and community members was hoisted into the air by a crane then carefully guided into place.

Since December is such a popular month for gift-buying, it only makes sense that it has been named the official Safe Toys and Gifts Month.
