New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

With October upon us, pink ribbons emerge and the color pink seems to appear everywhere. In 1985, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was initiated and included a weeklong event addressing with Congress the need for mammogram accessibility. Today, advocates participate in events to raise money and share breast health messages. (more)

Breast Cancer Awareness month, beautiful fall leaves and football season -- what could they possibly have in common? When you stop and think about it, there are a few similarities. First, vibrant colors come to mind: red, orange and yellow leaves tell many of us that October is here. Pink ribbons appear in stores and on television shows, and some even show up at football games. NFL players wore pink cleats and gloves during their first games in October. Whether you're a football fan or not, it's a good time of year to remind the women in your life to get a mammogram. Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is proud to announce that Penn State Hershey Breast Center has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. The Center earned a perfect score by successfully meeting with all 27 standards outlined by the NAPBC. (more)
