Penn State adult learner Nicole Bianchi studied online in public libraries between her husband's Minor League baseball games. Lt. Michael Choe, a U.S. Navy pilot, and his wife Amanda Choe juggled the challenges of military life to complete their degrees online. They and other adult students who earned their degrees at University Park campus and online through the World Campus will be honored at a Penn State Outreach graduation celebration. (more)
Obesity is rampant, food-borne illnesses are rising and the food supply chain is now global, leaving all but the largest food manufacturers scrambling to compete. How can smaller companies create healthier products, improve food safety and increase efficiencies, when they lack in-house resources? A new effort in southeastern Pennsylvania aims to address this with a center that pools Penn State, industry and other resources to help the food processing industry become more competitive. (more)
During National Engineers Week, observed from Feb. 14 to 20, Penn State Berks has a variety of events and activities planned, including a "Project Lead the Way" design challenge on Feb. 17, at the GoggleWorks in Reading, Pa., and a National Engineers Week luncheon on Feb. 18, in the multipurpose room at the campus' Perkins Student Center. The Office of Alumni Relations and Development is hosting a Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute reunion luncheon at Penn State Berks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. The Reading Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing will be the site of four Penn State football tailgate parties this year. Sponsored by the Penn State Berks Alumni Society and the Berks County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, in conjunction with the Reading Crowne Plaza, the football tailgates will begin one hour prior to kickoff, and the cost is $3 per person (children under 13 are free). Penn State Berks will hold its second annual Alumni Reunion at noon on Oct. 3 at the Reading Crowne Plaza. All Berks alumni and Penn State alumni who attended Berks campus are invited to attend along with their family and friends. (more)
