More than 150 students, family members, faculty, and staff attended the Penn State Beaver 43rd annual Spring Awards Banquet on campus. Beaver students were honored for their achievements during the 2010-11 academic year. Maria Corradi, a sophomore business administration major from Midland, received the University's highest student honor, the prestigious Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award, which recognizes a student's highest achievements in and out of the classroom at each Penn State campus. Dana Sklack, a senior communications major from Aliquippa, Pa., and a finalist for the Walker Award, was named Outstanding Student of the Year. Penn State Beaver will construct a 4,000-square-foot addition to its gymnasium, increasing space for gym equipment and creating a new entrance, Office of Physical Plant officials reported to the University's Board of Trustees. The addition will be constructed on the east side of the existing gym and become a focal point upon entering the campus. It will include a two-story area and a new main entrance that will link the building to the campus' main pedestrian walkway. (more)
On March 19, Penn State's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of WTW Architects of Pittsburgh as the architect for the design of the Gymnasium Building addition at Penn State Beaver. The Board of Trustees architect/engineer selection committee recommended the appointment. WTW Architects will design and build a 4,000-square-foot addition to the existing gymnasium. (more)

Penn State Beaver will host its annual Penn State Day and Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 24, with a variety of events scheduled on campus throughout the day. This year the campus' annual Scholarship Donor and Recipient event will be held as a luncheon in the Lodge of the Student Union Building. Other events will include a campus carnival, alumni athletic events, and a tailgate and game watch for the Penn State vs. Michigan game. (Schedule will depend on game time.) A bonfire will be held on campus the night before. The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will offer a free Columbus Day Application Workshop, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, in the Admissions Office, Student Union Building. Event registration is not required. Prospective Penn State students can complete a University application; those applying to Penn State and making Beaver campus their first choice may receive an offer decision immediately. Financial aid information and campus tours will be available. To receive an immediate admissions decision, applicants must bring their official high school transcripts. (more)
Penn State Beaver will host the eighth annual Beaver County College Fair from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the campus gymnasium. Representatives from more than 120 colleges, universities, technical schools and the military will be in attendance. Open to the public, this free event is co-sponsored by Penn State Beaver and the Beaver County Times and is widely recognized as the premier college fair serving Beaver County students.
