New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

More than two dozen high school juniors and sophomores graduated recently from Pennsylvania College of Technology's second annual Youth Leadership Program. Student teams from three area secondary schools will share $1,000 to fund civic projects they proposed during the program. (more)

Students in computer aided design majors at Pennsylvania College of Technology concluded a year's worth of design work recently when they tested their projects on a college parking lot. The pedal-powered, four-wheeled "quad cycles" the students designed sported frames constructed with 1-inch PVC pipe. (more)

"Illuminations," an exhibit of works by Cathy Breslaw, will be displayed at The Gallery at Penn College from May 18 to June 28. Breslaw's work explores the possibilities of using familiar and accessible commercial materials to create art pieces that awaken the mind and spirit. (more)

During the ceremonies, the college will bestow Distinguished Alumni and Alumni Achievement awards, and Distinguished Teaching Awards will be presented to faculty. Degrees will be conferred by President Davie Jane Gilmour, assisted by retiring Board of Directors Chairman Robert E. Dunham. (more)

The Children's Learning Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology now bears the name retiring Penn College Board of Directors Chairman Robert E. Dunham and his wife, Maureen. The surprise announcement was made after the April 26 Board of Directors meeting at Penn College. Dunham's last meeting as chairman will be in June. (more)
