Local job-seekers can interview with regional companies at the third annual Alle-Kiski Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, in the Athletics Center at Penn State New Kensington. More than 50 recruiters are expected to be available to provide career options for current students and recent graduates as well as those seeking a change in vocation. (more)
Bill Strickland, chief executive officer of the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild, a nonprofit agency in Pittsburgh that uses the arts to inspire inner-city teenagers, brings his inspirational creativity to Penn State New Kensington at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the campus Forum Theatre. Strickland is the author of "Make the Impossible Possible: One Man's Crusade to Inspire Others to Dream Bigger and Achieve the Extraordinary," the selected book for incoming freshmen at the campus. The Freshman Summer Reading Program was instituted at the campus in 2005 to encourage reading and critical thinking and to provide a shared experience among new students. Group discussions are slated with fellow students, faculty and staff throughout the fall semester. (more)
Penn State and the Pittsburgh Pirates are teaming up for THON Night at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Bucs take on the Houston Astros and Penn State alumni, and friends are encouraged to wear the blue and white as they cheer on the black and gold. Paul Posluszny, former linebacker for the Nittany Lion football team, will throw out the first pitch. Net proceeds benefit the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. Affectionately known as THON, the event is believed to be the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. With the support of Penn State students and alumni, THON continues to make great strides towards finding a cure for all childhood cancers. (more)
The Student Government Association at Penn State New Kensington reorganized May 1, when new officers of the board began one-year terms. The SGA officers represent the student body on various campus committees and support students clubs and organizations on campus. (more)
The 50th spring commencement address, "Preparing for a World of Change," delivered May 15 by Congressman Jason Altmire of the U.S. House of Representatives to the class of 2010 at Penn State New Kensington, is posted on the campus website. Altmire represents Pennsylvania's 4th District, which comprises parts of six counties in the western part of the commonwealth. (more)

A team of radiological science students from Penn State New Kensington took top research honors April 17 at the annual Pennsylvania Society of Radiologic Technologists conference in Scranton, Pa. Leah Brown, Anne Boyd and Megan Walters, under the guidance of Debra Majetic, coordinator of the radiological science program at the campus, won first place with their project, "Radiation for Safety." The trio's research focused on the backscatter imaging machines used in airports by homeland security. Sixty-eight projects were entered into the competition. (more)

Artwork by Penn State New Kensington students will be on display until April 30 in the campus Art Gallery. The Penn State Student Exhibition features the art projects for three courses -- painting, drawing and design -- taught by Bud Gibbons, associate professor of art. A reception for the artists is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, in the gallery. The reception and exhibit are free to the public.
