Once again this week, Penn State Head Football Coach Joe Paterno was on the field for the first half of the Nittany Lions' football game. Penn State beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 13-3 on Oct. 8 in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Beaver Stadium.

A limited number of tickets are now available for Penn State's Senior Day showdown with No. 9 Nebraska on Nov. 12 in Beaver Stadium as a result of some tickets being returned. The No. 16/15 Nittany Lions (8-1, 5-0) and Cornhuskers (7-1, 3-1) will be meeting for the first time as Big Ten Conference competitors. The national powers will play annually in a protected cross-division rivalry. Penn State leads the series, 7-6, with the teams meeting in Beaver Stadium for the first time since 2002. (more)

The Penn State All-Sports Museum, located at the southwest corner of Beaver Stadium on Penn State's University Park campus, has been a Nittany Lion fan's dream since it opened in 2002. Built to honor Penn State's athletic achievements, the museum comprises 10,000 square feet of exhibits depicting the University's lengthy history of successful athletes and teams. It also is home to the "Original Nittany Lion." (more)

Penn State softball opened its first NCAA Regional appearance in four years against Fordham, but Jackie Hill's sterling effort wasn't enough as the Rams prevailed, 2-0, on Friday at Beard Field. A pitchers' duel developed between Hill and All-American Jen Mineau of Fordham as the two hurlers tossed six scoreless innings. It wasn't until the top of the seventh that trouble set in. (more)

The sixth-largest crowd in Bryce Jordan Center history saw No. 1 Ohio State get a record 10-of-12 three-point shooting performance from Jon Diebler as the Buckeyes posted an 82-61 victory over Penn State on "Senior Night." A crowd of 15,403, the largest in 11 years, was bolstered by 6,072 students, by far the largest student turnout in Penn State basketball history, as Nittany Lion fans turned out early and in white to honor five Penn State seniors. Paterno to receive NCAA's Gerald R. Ford Award for being role model

Penn State football Coach Joe Paterno has been named the winner of the 2011 NCAA President's Gerald R. Ford Award. NCAA President Mark Emmert will present the award to Paterno on Jan. 13, 2011 at the NCAA Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
"I am honored to present this award to coach Paterno," Emmert said.
"For me, Coach Paterno is the definitive role model of what it means to be a college coach." (more)

Big Ten announces football division alignments, conference schedules

The Big Ten Conference has announced football division alignments beginning with the 2011 season. The winner of each Big Ten division will meet in the inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game, to be played Dec. 3, 2011, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The championship game will determine the Big Ten Champion and the conference's participant in the Rose Bowl Game or Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game. (more)

Less than three years after launch, the Big Ten Network is available on 300 cable and satellite providers that carry the network to approximately 75 million homes in the U.S. and Canada, including 38 states and 19 of the top 20 U.S. markets. A handful of cable systems in Pennsylvania still do not carry the network, including Armstrong, Blue Ridge, Metrocast and Adams Cable. A combined total of more than 35,000 Penn State alumni live in communities served by these four providers, in addition to thousands more current Penn State students and fans. Customers of these four cable providers have missed more than 100 Penn State athletic events on the Big Ten Network during the 2009-10 academic year. (more)

Nittany Lions to face Minnesota in first round of Big Ten Tournament

The Nittany Lions basketball team will enter the 13th Big Ten Tournament at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as the 11th seed and will take on No. 6-seed Minnesota Thursday at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the first round. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network. The winner of that game will advance to face No. 3 seeded Michigan State, which finished in a three-way tie for the Big Ten regular season championship with Ohio State and Purdue. (more)
