Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

The Nittany Lion Club and the Penn State Alumni Association will team up to provide fans the chance to meet and hear from some of the leaders of Penn State Athletics this spring when the Penn State Coaches Caravan hits the road for destinations across Nittany Nation, encompassing seven states and Washington, D.C. Nittany Lion football coach Bill O'Brien will headline the bus tour of many Penn State alumni strongholds across Pennsylvania and the East Coast. The first-year coach is scheduled to participate in all 18 Coaches Caravan stops across nine days in late April and early May. (more)

Football seat selection for 2012 under way

Penn State football season ticket holders began selecting seat locations for the 2012 seven-game home schedule on Tuesday (March 20) with the process continuing through the end of April. Nittany Lion Club members who have met the 2012 donation criteria are assigned a specific time to go online and complete their seat selection. Those eligible to participate will receive email instructions with their selection time. (more)

The Nittany Lion Club announced a pair of preview events in late August, starting with the 2011 Penn State Sports Preview on Monday, Aug. 29 in Harrisburg and ending with the 2011 Penn State Football Season Preview on Tuesday, Aug. 30 in King of Prussia. The voice of the Nittany Lions, Steve Jones, will emcee both events and will be joined by first-year men's basketball coach Patrick Chambers in Harrisburg. The Central Pennsylvania Chapter and Delaware Valley Chapter will host the events, respectively. (more)

The Nittany Lion Club will host its inaugural Nittany Lion Club Golf Tournament and Cookout on Friday, July 15 at the Penn State Golf Courses. The golf tournament, which will take place during Arts Festival Weekend, will feature a two-man best ball tournament on the Blue Course and a scramble foursome with a celebrity guest on the White Course. The Nittany Lion Club will host its annual Blue-White Event at the Bryce Jordan Center prior to the Blue-White game on Saturday, April 24. The breakfast features special guests head coach Joe Paterno and the 2010 football senior class. Tickets to this year's event are $20 and are available now. Doors for the Nittany Lion Club Blue-White Event will open at 9 a.m. and the program will begin at 10:30 a.m. At the suggestion of many of last year's attendees, this year's event will utilize a town hall set up with open seating.
