Senior Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) and the three-time defending national champion Penn State women's volleyball team are to be honored by the Touchdown Club of Columbus on Saturday, Feb. 6. Hodge has been selected as the 2009 Female Athlete of the Year and head coach Russ Rose, in honor of the team and the University will receive an Award of Distinction for the remarkable 2009 season. Senior Penn State women's volleyball player Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been nominated for the AAU Sullivan Award by The AAU National Volleyball Committee. Known as the "Oscar" of sports awards, and older than The Heisman, the AAU Sullivan Award honors an outstanding amateur athlete in the U.S. This is just the latest accolade for Hodge, who was recently honored as the Honda Award Winner for volleyball. Senior Penn State women's volleyball player Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has won the 2010 Honda Sports Award in volleyball, designating her as the nation's top collegiate female athlete in that sport. The honor was based on the results of national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, now in its 34th year. This is the second year in a row that a Penn State University volleyball player has been honored with the award. Last year's winner was Penn State's Nicole Fawcett. (more)

Penn State women's volleyball senior setter Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich.) and senior outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) have been named two of four finalists for the 2009-10 Honda Sports Award to determine the top woman collegiate athlete in that sport. Cal's Hana Cutura and Texas' Destinee Hooker join Glass and Hodge as finalists. After nationwide balloting, the Honda Award winner becomes a nominee for the Honda-Broderick Cup, given each year to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. (more)

After winning its seventh straight and 13th overall Big Ten title, the top-ranked Penn State women's volleyball team secured three individual awards from the league, conference officials announced Monday. Head coach Russ Rose was named Coach of the Year by his peers and the media, senior outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) was selected Player of the Year for the second time in her career and freshman outside hitter Darcy Dorton (Muncie, Ind.) earned Freshman of the Year. Hodge joined senior setter Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich.), junior opposite Blair Brown (Purcellville, Va.) and junior middle hitter Arielle Wilson (Broadview, Ill.) as First Team All-Big Ten honorees. Penn State women's volleyball senior outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced. She is one of seven student-athletes named to the first team in District II and is now eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Honors. (more)

Senior outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) was honored as this week's Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week a day after being selected as the Big Ten Player of the Week. The honor is the first of the season for the No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team and the second national honor of Hodge's career. She was also recognized on Sept. 10, 2007. It is also the seventh honor in Penn State history as Syndie Nadeau was honored on Nov. 8, 2004, Sam Tortorello on Oct. 3, 2005 and current senior setter Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich.) has been selected on three occasions. Penn State women's volleyball senior middle hitter Christa Harmotto (Aliquippa, Pa.) has been named the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American of the Year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced. This prestigious honor is only the second-ever for a Nittany Lion women's volleyball student-athlete, as Bonnie Bremner picked up the accolade in 1998 and 1999. In addition, junior outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) is one of six student-athletes in the country to earn ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-America honors. (more)
