Former Nittany Lion women's volleyball player Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been named Big Ten Icon No. 49 as one of the top 50 student-athletes in Big Ten history. Hodge was one of two icons, the other being legendary Iowa wrestler Tom Brands. Big Ten Icons, presented by Discover, is the Big Ten Network's most ambitious multiplatform initiative to date. The program is counting down the top 50 student-athletes in Big Ten history based solely on their collegiate careers. Hodge and Brands represent the first two Icons to be named in the series. (more)
Former Nittany Lion women's volleyball player Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been named a finalist for the Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year award. Hodge is one of 10 finalists selected for the 2010 honor, which fans can vote for to determine the ultimate winner. The Women's Sports Foundation honors an individual and team each year based on their exceptional performance during a 12-month time span. Past winners include Nastia Liukin for gymnastics, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in beach volleyball and Mia Hamm in women's soccer. (more)
After being named the Suzy Favor Female Big Ten Athlete of the Year, Penn State women's volleyball outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been named one of four ESPY award nominees for Best Female College Athlete. The ESPY's take place on Wednesday, July 14 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Penn State's four-time AVCA First Team All-American Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been named the 2009-10 Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year by the Big Ten. Penn State's first Honda-Broderick Cup winner, Hodge led the Penn State women's volleyball team to three straight NCAA National Championships and back-to-back undefeated seasons. Ohio State men's basketball player Evan Turner was named this year's Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year. The Big Ten Network also recognized the women's volleyball team and head coach Russ Rose in its third annual Big Ten Network Awards. Rose was named the Big Ten Network's Women's Coach of the Year, while the Nittany Lion women's volleyball team was named the Women's Team of the Year. (more)

Penn State women's volleyball outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been named one of two winners of the Honda-Broderick Cup designating the top Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. Hodge shares the honor with University of Connecticut women's basketball junior Maya Moore. It is just the second time in the history of the Collegiate Women's Sports Award that two female athletes have tied for the Honda-Broderick Cup. The pair was selected by a vote among 1,000 NCAA member schools and the Board of Directors of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Program. (more)
Penn State women's volleyball outside hitter Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been voted one of three finalists for the Honda-Broderick Cup, given to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. The finalists were chosen from previously announced Honda Sports Award winners in 12 different NCAA-sanction sports, by a vote from among more than 1,000 NCAA-member institutions. Former Nittany Lions Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) and Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) have been selected as the 2010 Penn State Athletes of the Year. Hodge, a four-time All-American, led the women's volleyball team to three consecutive national championships while Yeisley was a three-time All-Big Ten men's soccer player. Yeisley and Hodge are now, respectively, eligible for the Big Ten's Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year Award and Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year Award. Penn State women's volleyball senior Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been selected as one of six finalists for the 2009 AAU Sullivan Amateur Award. The winner will be announced on April 14 at the AAU James E. Sullivan Award Ceremony held at the New York Athletic Club. The six finalists in addition to Hodge include, Illinois' Angela Bizzarri (cross country), USF's Zak Boggs (men's soccer), Erin Hamlin who competes in the luge, Army's Clint Moore (baseball) and Amy Palmiero-Winters who is an ultra marathoner. Known as the "Oscar" of sports awards, and older than The Heisman, the AAU Sullivan Award honors an outstanding amateur athlete in the U.S. (more)
Penn State women's volleyball senior Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) has been selected as one of 14 semifinalists for the AAU Sullivan Award as the Top Amateur Athlete of 2009. Online voting is at USA Today. This year's 14 semifinalists include Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram from the University of Alabama, three-time Olympic diver Troy Dumais and Amy Palmiero-Winters, a world record-setting amputee ultra-marathoner, among many others. Finalists will be announced by Friday, April 2 and the winner of the 80th annual Sullivan Award will be announced on April 14 in New York at the New York Athletic Club. (more)
