Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

The 10th Annual Penn State Football Uplifting Athletes Lift for Life is set for Friday, July 13, with proceeds again benefiting the Kidney Cancer Association. The popular event will be held from 5-7 p.m. during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College. The format and location for the 10th Annual Penn State Football Uplifting Athletes Lift for Life are to be announced at a later date. (more)

Additional contributions to the Ninth Annual Penn State Uplifting Athletes "Lift For Life" has boosted the 2011 total to a record total in excess of $100,000 raised to benefit the Kidney Cancer Association. The "Lift For Life" was held on July 8 in Holuba Hall and the initial total raised by the strength and conditioning event was $94,410.09. Additional contributions have raised the total to $100,930 raised for kidney cancer research and patients by Penn State Football student-athletes. The previous mark was just over $98,000 in 2010. Again last year, more than 90 Nittany Lion football student-athletes tested their strength and endurance in an 11-event strength and conditioning challenge that raised a record total for kidney cancer awareness and assistance. The Penn State Chapter of Uplifting Athletes has elected new officers for 2011 and set the date for the Ninth Annual Penn State Lift for Life: Friday, July 8, in Holuba Hall. Proceeds again will benefit the Kidney Cancer Association. Since 2003, the Penn State Lift For Life has continued to build awareness and raise funds for the Kidney Cancer Association and rare diseases. The event is organized by Penn State Football Uplifting Athletes, whose members are on the Penn State football team. (more)

Despite sweltering conditions in Holuba Hall, the eighth annual Penn State Uplifting Athletes "Lift For Life" was a huge success drawing more than 3,000 fans and raising a record total of $98,461.35 to benefit the Kidney Cancer Association. The record total was nearly $16,000 more than was raised last year and a far cry from the $13,000 raised in the events first year in 2003. Thanks to generous sponsors, fans and the participating Nittany Lion football players, "Lift For Life" has now raised an eight-year total of nearly $500,000 for the Kidney Cancer Association. (more)

Dunk tank fundraiser to benefit Kidney Cancer Association

Penn State Football Uplifting Athletes has announced that nine current players will be participating in a dunk tank fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. on Friday (April 23) near Beaver Stadium as part of Blue-White Weekend presented by AAA. As in previous years, proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Kidney Cancer Association. (more)

The Seventh Annual Uplifting Athletes "Lift for Life" event held Friday at Holuba Hall was another unprecedented success with large crowds and a record total of more than $81,000 raised for the Kidney Cancer Association. The event has now raised nearly $400,000 in its seven years of existence. Created, organized and run by Penn State football players, the 11-exercise endurance and weight lifting competition drew thousands of spectators to Holuba Hall, the Nittany Lions indoor practice facility, as 24, four-man teams, 96 players in all, went through a circuit of events which included standard exercises such as bench and leg presses and unusual events such as flipping a large tractor tire up and down the length of the hall.
